Eimer Stahl Wins Historic Victory against Chicago Public Schools

December 5, 2018

Eimer Stahl LLP, along with attorneys from the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and LAF, won a historic victory over Chicago Public Schools (CPS) earlier this week. Earlier this year, CPS released plans to close the South Loop elementary school National Teachers Academy (NTA) and convert the campus into a high school. In June, four NTA families filed a civil rights lawsuit challenging CPS’ plan – citing that CPS used racially discriminatory metrics in its proposal, as well as improper academic criteria. On Monday, Cook County Judge Franklin Ulyses Valderrama granted an injunction, forcing CPS to abandon its plan.

Eimer Stahl attorneys Brent Austin and Caroline Malone helped represent NTA to achieve this notable victory.
